It
was very disappointing that Berlingo was heterozyote positive for the
mutation that may cause HCM in Maine Coon cats, but we desided to keep
her, rather than letting Maggie have a third litter, where the
posibility for heterozygote positive kittens was of course also present
and we would rather continue with Berlingo in our breeding program than
to take that chance. We hope that she won't develop HCM and that hope
is based on the fact that very few cats that are tested positive for
the mutation has actually developed HCM. We will of course have her
scanned according to the guidelines lined out at pawpeds, and we will
only breed her to males that are normale for
the mutation. It goes without saying that any offspring we will keep
from her will be normal for the mutation. She might not have many
litters in our breeding program, but that is for the future to see and
for now we're enjoying her really nice personality and the true joy she
is to share our house with:-)
